Today, transformation in the business of healthcare has a clear name- technology. Techplus media’s maiden Healthcare IT summit, 2015 was organised in Mumbai on September 4, 2015, with a view to facilitating transformation in the healthy industry dynamics. The event saw participation by stalwarts from both the industries and some really insightful discussions on the podium.
The objective of the maiden Summit was to bring together Hospitals and service providers on one platform, with the purpose of collating ini
tiatives that will help reduce cost of healthcare delivery and build a stronger, more modern, cost effective and efficient healthcare eco-system.
The event started with Kalpana Singhal welcoming the delegates andparticipants. Anuj Singhal, welcomed the delegates next, inviting the guest of Honour.
Mr. Rajendra Pratap Gupta to take the podium. Mr. Gupta spoke of the crucial issues that faced the adoption of It in healthcare in India today, what would be the recourse and challenges, and shared his insights about the working of the government policy process to encourage this.
Dr. Vijay Baviskar, Asst Director, Public Health Department, Maharashtra, took the stage and shared the Maharashtra Government’s Initiatives that amalgamated technology to enhance the public heath quality that the state provides.
Over the last few years, technology changed the way healthcare is dispensed. It has a far greater role to play in providing patient care, diagnosis, support and monitoring than ever before. Rapid innovations are adding to the experience and enabling healthcare providers and researchers alike to change the very basis of their business- it is about better adoption, better utilisation and better application of technology. The first panel discussion was titled New Horizons for Healthcare & Riding the Tech Wave, was moderated by Dr. N K Singh, Associate Director, Healthcare at Frost and Sullivan.
Ms. Valerie Maguire, Director of Standards & Technology, gave a presentation titled IT Cabling Infrastructure and Design for Healthcare Facilities- highlighting the critical role of network infrastructure technologies in many innovations in the healthcare industry.
In a medical enterprise, who takes the decisions for investing in IT, and how does the management support the budget and deployment decisions? This and more was discussed in the panel discussion, The Role of Decision Makers – Adoption of IT in Healthcare, moderated by Mr. Niranjan Ramakrishnan, CIO, Gangaram Hospital.
The biggest advantage that technology has imparted to every industry is to improve productivity, cut resource costs and optimise efficiency. Mr K Sivakumar, DGM, Inkjet Products, Sales and Marketing, Epson, talked about some specialized technologies that can help the healthcare sector get the right balance between productivity and cost, in his presentation “Technologies to improve productivity and optimise cost”.
The next panel discussion made the mobility paradigm the hero of healthcare innovations – Leveraging M-health for Healthcare Transformation, moderated by Mr Joy Chakraborty, the COO of PD Hinduja Healthcare.
The advantages and repercussions that AV technologies can impart to the healthcare vertical were summed up in the presentation, AV Technologies for the Healthcare Vertical, by Mr. G Sankaran, Asst VP, Godrej & Boyce Mfg Co Ltd.
Imaging technologies, robotics that come to the aid of medical experts like cardiologists, oncologists, ophthalmologists and even neurologists, and have really stepped up their ability to save lives. Dr Vivek Kadambi, an eminent ophthalmologist, moderated our next session on – The New Era Of Medical Technologies Like Imaging, Robotics, EHR And Its Applications Today – Are We Using Enough.
Among the most talked about technologies that have actually taken the enterprise (including the human facing business of healthcare and pharma) by storm, have been summed up in one buzzword- SMAC. In this, social media is of course where all communications happen but the Cloud and Big Data analytics have a huge impact on all things enterprise. How these can be used to transform the entire business of healthcare is the subject of our next presentation – Leveraging Big Data for Transforming Primary Health Care, by Ullas Nambiar, Scientist and Head- Advanced Engineering, EMC India
The last panel discussion brought to fore some questions, and got some answers on the adoption of analytics- the magic wand for enterprise. It also highlighted inter-operability issues between 
technology adoption and legacy infrastructure, as well as technology’s role in business objectives in this sector. The session on “The new paradigm of analytics in healthcare – How will the sector handle the issue of interoperability given the nascent adoption of IT in the sector was moderated by Dr. Ruchi Dass.
