The Ministry of Health Monday launched a two-week campaign for detection of the Leprosy in Indai. India should target eradicating the disease as the country celebrates Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary, Modi had said at the meeting.
During the campaign, trained health workers will visit 149 endemic districts and 1,656 blocks to detect cases and send the ailing for treatment. While India has eliminated leprosy at the national and state levels, the disease remains at the block and district levels.
The incidence at the national and state levels remains below one case per 10,000 people, but this is higher at the district and block levels due to unrestricted transmission — the issue the campaign seeks to address.
